PortaBooth

PortaBooth, Inc. will manufacture and market an inflatable portable booth, to be used in the cosmetic procedure that utilizes an artist’s airbrush to apply a sunless tanning solution, which results in a natural looking tan that lasts 5-10 days. PortaBooth will serve as the brand name and identity name for the product.

The PortaBooth is a three-sided inflatable booth with the two side panels that articulate to create a 5 ft. to 7 ft. wide opening and front height of 7 ft.  Floor and ceiling panels are built-in. The back panel contains two holes sealed with reusable filters. An integral part of the PortaBooth is a separate portable unit containing a vertical array of two high efficiency fans. This fan unit aligns with the filters in the PortaBooth back panel.  During the spray application, the fan unit draws the overspray mist into the filters.  After the spray application, the fan unit is directed towards the client to accelerate drying time. Multiple U.S. patents on the booth and fan unit are pending.

The PortaBooth will be used by individual entrepreneurs, as well as commercial beauty and spa establishments, for the application of air brush suntan solution.  The Portabooth can be uses in the home, office, and at show events (fashion, body building, etc). The process involves a technician using an airbrush connected to a small compressor, to spray the client with a sunless tanning solution containing DHA and a temporary bronzer. The DHA reacts with the amino acids in the upper layers of the skin to create a brown skin color similar to a natural tan. DHA is a safe, inert sugar derivative approved by the FDA for use as a cosmetic. The airbrush application takes 10 to 15 minutes, after which the client waits 10-15 minutes to dry completely.

The PortaBooth’s primary function is to collect virtually all the brown tinted mist resulting from the airbrush overspray. The mist is water-soluble and will wash out of clothing, but it will cover and discolor all surfaces including walls, floors, fixtures, furniture, etc. around the spray area. This overspray is a major problem in this fast growing industry. Currently, there are two solutions to this problem. The first is to dedicate a small room or bathroom for the airbrush application, but this has the drawback of requiring constant cleaning of all walls, etc. The second is a permanently installed spray extraction booths. These booths are heavy fixed structures, requiring costly installation and set up time. Currently, there are approx. four competing companies producing permanent spray booths.

Our solution is the PortaBooth. It can be used as a permanent installation or easily moved to a home or event. The PortaBooth is light (13 lbs.), and using the airbrush compressor, fully inflates in seven minutes. The entire unit can be washed with a water hose or wet rag and filters are reusable . At the expected retail price, PortaBooth will sell for at least 25% less than the industry average. No professional installation is required.

The PortaBooth will for the first time enable individual suntan technicians to provide this service in the comfort and privacy of a client’s home and remote locations. Currently, in order to get an airbrush suntan, the client must travel to a tanning salon, wait for their appointment, undress, put on a bathing suit or disposable bikini (or go nude), have the solution applied, wait to dry, dress, and leave. In addition, prior to application, the client must have no makeup, perfume, or deodorant and remove all jewelry. Following the spray application, the client must thoroughly dry and wear loose clothing (sweats or jogging outfit) and then wait a minimum of 5 hours prior to their first shower. During that shower, the original bronzer coloring washes off, leaving the skin with a natural looking tan that lasts 5-10 days. From the suntan client’s perspective there are great advantages to having this procedure in their home, including saving time and expense required for a salon visit, privacy, child care issues, better tan results, and overall convenience.

The PortaBooth can also be used in a tanning salon, spa, gymnasium, cruise ship, etc. as a permanent amenity. It will allow tanning salons, etc. to offer this amenity to their clients, in their shop , home or office. Suntan home parties, pre-wedding, Quince, and Bat Mitzvah group tanning sessions will be even more appealing and economical. The indoor tanning business is currently a five billion dollar industry providing services to 29 million Americans. The primary target group for sunless tanning is women over thirty years old. The spray-tan segment of the industry has experienced explosive growth in the last four years, because sunless spray products provide immediate gratification without the harmful effects of UV radiation.
